Battle of the Mugs: Stanley vs. Contigo - A Comprehensive Comparison

As someone who regularly commutes for work, a travel mug is an essential for me to be able to enjoy my hot and cold beverages on the go. Today I will be comparing the highly rated Contigo Auto-Seal Mug with the viral Stanley Mug .

1. Design and Build:

  • Stanley Mug: 1.2 liters, D- shape, plastic exterior.

  • Contigo Mug: 500 ml, handle-free, stainless steel exterior.

  • Both mugs have a stainless steel interior

  • The Stanley mug has more color/design options for the exterior

2. Insulation and Temperature Retention:

  • Stanley Mug excels in keeping cold liquids cold.

  • Contigo Mug is better at maintaining the temperature of hot liquids.

3. Lid:

  • Stanley Mug: Plastic handle with straw, adjustable top, and removable straw.

  • Contigo Mug: Regular spout with a locking mechanism for leak prevention.

5. Ease of Cleaning:

  • Stanley Mug: Very easy to clean with soap and water.

  • Contigo Mug: The lid was really difficult to clean. I had to use toothpicks at one point. If you get the Contigo mug, definitely wash it thoroughly after every use to prevent build-up.

6. Scratch Resistance:

  • Contigo Mug is more scratch-resistant due to its stainless steel exterior.

  • Stanley Mug is easily scratched.

7. Leakage Test:

  • Contigo Mug is more effective in preventing leaks.

  • Stanley Mug released water during the leakage test.

8. Price and Value for Money:

  • Contigo Mug retails for $30.

  • Stanley Mug retails for $46, but you found a dupe for $20.

Final Recommendation

Overall, both mugs are great and I'd recommend them both for different uses. The compact and durable Contigo mug is perfect if you need a mug for work or on-the-go activities. If you're looking for a stylish mug with a large capacity, the Stanley mug would be great.
